SMH is installing it's own MRI machine in a new building that will make
access for patients easy. The new building is an extension of the XRay
deparment which means patients will not longer have to go outside and
up stairs to get to the MRI department.
The new MRI (Toshiba EXCELART VANTAGE AVG) and modular on-site means
that we can offer MRI service 5-6 days a week. This means that we can
do more exams and keep patient care here, in our community. We will also
be able to offer more a wider variety of exams.
The MRI unit has the widest bore on the market and the gantry
size (or length) is shorter. A software package based on parallel imaging
allows for quicker scan times. All these features
will help patients feel less confined and especially those who might
be claustrophobic.
A community committee has been organized to raise funds for the 6.8 million dollar building project. Two large donations of $200,000 have been awarded by generous community agencies. The SMH fund raising goal is 2 million dollars. If you would like to make a contribution please contact hospital administration at: 872-8402.
