The Summersville Memorial Hospital Radiology Department is a multi-modality,
state-of-the-art imaging center which performs approximately 45,000 procedures
per year. Services available include routine radiography, digital fluoroscopy,
cat scan, ultrasound, nuclear medicine, mammography and MRI.
Routine exams of the skull, spine and extremities are performed utilizing 2 Toshiba T-Rad units.
Digital fluoroscopy exams are completed in a Philips R&F room. SMH performs a full spectrum of barium exams of the upper and lower GI tract. Also available are iodinated contrast exams of the kidneys and bladder (e.g. IVP, VCUG and HSG).
Cat Scans are acquired with a Toshiba Asteion 4-slice scanner. SMH performs a wide variety of CT exams including routine head and body imaging as well as 3-dimensional imaging of bone (orthopedic) and vasculature (CT angiography).
SMH offers a full suite of ultrasound services. Cardiac echo and vascular exams such as carotid duplex and upper/lower extremity venous exams are performed on an ATL unit. General abdominal and pelvic exams are obtained with an Acuson system. General work is also performed with a Toshiba Nemio. The Nemio is utilized for prostate and prostate biopsy exams as well. A Medison Accuvix 3-D unit is used for most OB exams.
The Nuclear Medicine department is comprised of a Toshiba T-cam. Cardiac stress tests and bone scans are just a small sample of the nuclear exams available at SMH.
The mammography suite houses a Siemens Mammomat Nova 3000. This is a
dual bucky system with automatic compression control. SMH uses BioLucent
SoftTouch Pads to help alleviate some of the pain and discomfort associated
with a mammogram.
MRI services are currently provided by Alliance Imaging 3 days a week.
However, SMH is acquiring an in-house unit which will allow for 24/7
availabilty of MR service.
