The
Summersville Memorial Hospital Radiology Department is a state-of-the-art,
multi-modality imaging center which performs approximately 52,000 procedures
per year. Services available include Routine radiography, Digital Fluoroscopy,
Computed Tomography, Ultrasound, Nuclear Medicine, Mammography, and Magnetic
Resonance Imaging.
Routine Radiography
Routine exams of the chest, abdomen, skull, spine and extremities are performed utilizing Toshiba T-Rad units.
Digital Fluoroscopy
Digital fluoroscopy exams are completed in a Philips R & F room. SMH performs a full spectrum of barium exams of the upper and lower intestinal tract. Also available are iodinated contrast exams of the kidneys and bladder (e.g., IVP, VCUG and HSG).
Computed Tomography (CT)
CT scans are acquired with a Toshiba Aquilion 64 slice scanner. SMH performs a wide variety of CT exams including routine head and body imaging, as well as 3-D imaging of bone (orthopedic) and vasculature anatomy (CT angiography). Pulmonary Lung Nodule Assessment is a specialized software program allowing for safer (non-contrast) and more efficient tracking of lung nodules.
Ultrasound
SMH offers a full suite of ultrasound services, including but not limited to the following scans:
• General abdominal and pelvic
•
Carotid Duplex
•
Small parts
•
Upper/lower extremity - arterial and venous
•
Obstetrics
•
Ankle Brachial Index (ABI)
•
Vascular
SMH has 2 Toshiba Aplio XG units along with a Medison Accuvix 3-D and a Toshiba Nemio system.
Nuclear Medicine
The Nuclear Medicine department is comprised of a Toshiba T-Cam dual
head system. SMH offers the performance of Cardiac stress tests, HIDA
scans, thyroid and bone scans. Thyroid therapies and ablations utilizing
I-131 are also available.
Mammography
The mammography suite houses a Siemens Mammomat Nova 3000 unit. This is a dual buckey system with automatic compression control to ensure the best quality image with the just the right amount of breast tissue compression for each patient. SMH uses BioLucent SoftTouch Pads to alleviate some of the pain and discomfort associated with a mammogram.
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
MRI services are available utilizing a Toshiba Vantage ExelArt unit. The Vantage employs Toshiba’s patented “pianissimo” quiet technology to reduce noise during the patient exam. Faster scans sequences paired with a larger gantry opening allow scanning of claustrophobic patients. Specialized software programs allow for the performance of non-contrast angiography examinations.
PACS
Summersville Memorial Hospital uses the DR Systems PACS solution to share images with referring physicians via a highly secure network connection. This “film-less” environment allows for quicker access to patient exams and reports resulting in more efficient care.
