What is Cardiac Rehab?
Cardiac Rehabilitation is an adult lifestyle modification program designed
to help patients with heart disease return to a healthy lifestyle. The
Program involves a full spectrum of exercise and fitness regime along
with diet and lifestyle reorganization.
What are the benefits?
• Reduces risk factors for coronary artery disease

Improves cardiorespiratory (heart/lung) function
•
Return participants to active, healthy lifestyle
•
Educates participants and their families about heart disease, exercise,
diet, and lifestyle changes
Who is a candidate for Cardiac Rehab?
Last March the CMS (Center for Medicare/Medicaid) approved three new diagnoses for coverage. The following are now covered by CMS and most commercial insurances:
•
Myocardial Infarction (heart attack) within the past 12 months
•
Open heart surgery (bypass) within the past 12 months
•
Stable angina
•
Angioplasty/ Stent placement
•
Valve repair/ replacement
•
Heart Transplant and
•
Other patients considered “at risk” for developing heart
disease
What services are provided?
The Cardiac Rehab program offers a continuous electrocardiogram (ECG) telemetry monitored and a non-telemetry monitored program. The program concentrates on reconditioning and improving physical work capacity through a variety of prescribed exercise classes three times per week for 12 weeks, or as appropriate for each individual. Each participant’s exercise regimen and lifestyle changing goals are individualized. Exercise prescriptions are updated and goals are assessed on a regular basis. Progress reports are share with participant and the referring physician throughout the program
