About SMH

Summersville Memorial Hospital opened it doors to serve the community in March, 1968. Originally it was an Extended Care Facility known as the Summersville Convalescent Home, operating as such for a period of approximately two years, then later being converted to also include hospital care as well as obstetrical care, and the name was changed to Summersville Memorial Hospital.

The first hospital Administrator was E. C. Fairchild, followed by Landis Hudkins, Don Mith, Gregory D. Johnson, David H. Lackey, and finally Debbie Hill - the current administrator.

The hospital is owned by the City of Summersville.

Currently Summersville Memorial Hospital has 53 acute beds and 52 extended care beds and employees more that 360 people.

In 1996 Summersville Memorial Hospital opened the Ambulatory Care Center which now is home to several physician offices, physical therapy, and many other services. This building is located next to the hospital.

Continuing to look to improve services to the community Summersville Memorial Hospital is still undergoing change and construction. Expansion of the parking areas around the hospital is currently under way and will allow better access to the hospital for both patients and visitors.

The next phase of improvements is for an expanded Emergency Department, building a new Intensive Care Unit, remodel the lab and medical records and create a new entrance and reception area.

Future plans are to construction of a new Extended Care Facility on another site on the property.

In addition to the hospital itself, Summersville Memorial Hospital also operates satellite sites at the Ansted Medical Clinic located at:
101 Florence Street, Ansted, WV and also the Sleep Diagnostics Center for sleep disorders.
